About

Here you will find GPS tracks from our hikes in Japan between 2006 and 2013, from summits over 3,000 m in the Northern Alps to the volcanoes of Tōhoku, in summer and in winter snow.

Our GPS was a Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx.

Each hike has its own page, with the track on the GSI topographic map (国土地理院), the elevation profile and the statistics for the day. The GPX files can be downloaded directly from that page. Hikes of several days, from one hut to the next, are grouped into trips: the trip page shows the whole route, and each day has its own page.

On the home page, the small map of Japan lets you choose a mountain range, and the filter buttons show trips, winter outings, volcanoes or summits over 3,000 m.

The site launched in 2008 (“Hello everyone! Here you will find all the GPS tracks of our hikes in Japan”), then rebuilt in 2026.

The topographic maps come from the GSI, the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan: the page Reading a GSI map explains their symbols. The weather for each day comes from the records of the Japan Meteorological Agency.
