May snow below the Hotaka
In early May, the Hotaka are still white above the Kamikochi woods. The route follows the Azusa valley before climbing to Karasawa. Snow still fills the basin, while the trees lower down show bare branches.
In the woods, a macaque sits near the grasses and small branches on the ground. Along the Azusa, the pale pebbles still lie next to snow-covered banks.
